The MOL Bubi bike-sharing scheme is a new public transport option in Budapest. The apple-green bikes can be hired from and returned to any docking station found at major transport hubs in the city centre. This new mode of public transport combines the freedom of individual mobility with the reliability of fixed-rail transport. So far 1,150 bikes can be hired from 99 docking stations in the centre of Budapest. Each station features a terminal, some of which are equipped with touch screens and bankcard-readers. Docking points serve the purpose of securely placing the bikes. The scheme comprises special bicycles, docking stations, the maintenance and redistribution system, customer service and the complex IT-background supporting the whole system along with the road network covered by the service. The stations have docking points and terminals that support the hire process.
