BiomWeb

Mrüna’s low-cost, rapid tech solution aims to tackle the economic and social challenges of wastewater treatment with its decentralised nature-based system, BiomWeb.

Using IoT, the solution treats wastewater on-site, negating the need to transport waste and recycled water, with a series of water tanks that imitate aquatic habitats found in nature, without the use of added chemicals, desludging, or vast infrastructure investment.

Mrüna anticipates that BiomWeb will be adopted by refugee camps and informal settlements, as well as private and public sectors across the world.

Smart sewer project detects virus outbreaks

The initial findings of an Israeli pilot project aimed at detecting outbreaks of Covid-19 by identifying traces of the coronavirus in the municipal sewage system have been released.

According to smart wastewater big data solutions firm Kando, preliminary results demonstrate the technology’s ability to pinpoint specifically affected neighbourhoods and hotspots. The idea is that it would provide authorities early-warning for outbreaks and data to limit isolation of areas and lockdowns – even to city street level.

Self watering green roadblock

Climate action charity Possible has created a self-watering ‘green’ roadblock to help cities’ with their Covid-19 emergency transport plans. The roadblocks are designed to prevent the predicted surge in post-lockdown motor traffic from overwhelming UK city streets. Working with specialist civil engineering firms and horticultural experts, Possible’s innovation team adapted standard concrete roadblocks to embed high-tech rainwater reservoirs beneath recesses planted with a selection of drought-tolerant species.

Solar pump

An innovative solar pump was installed at the end of Kártya Street to drain excess rainwater. This street, as the deepest point of the Rózsavölgy suffered the most from the creek floods and rainfalls that flow there from everywhere. The road surface and sidewalk have been renovated from wall to wall, and for years the temporary sandbag protection has been replaced by a permanent defense.

Interceptor, the river plastic waste collector boat

The Interceptor is The Ocean Cleanup’s answer for river plastic waste. It is the first scalable solution to prevent plastic from entering the world’s oceans from rivers. It is 100% solar-powered, extracts plastic autonomously, and is capable of operating in the majority of the world’s most polluting rivers. The debris enters the Interceptor with the natural current of the river. All electronics on the Interceptor, including the conveyor belt, shuttle, lights, sensors, data transmission, are solar-powered.

Mayflower Autonomous Ship

The Mayflower Autonomous Ship (MAS) will begin its journey on 6 September 2020 and cross the Atlantic Ocean, from Plymouth to Plymouth. Like its namesake in 1620, MAS will rely to some extent on favourable weather to complete its crossing as it will be powered by state-of-the-art hybrid propulsion system, utilizing wind, solar, state-of-the-art batteries, and a diesel generator.

First commercial aquaponic system in Vienna

Aquaponics is in a sustainable closed cycle the cultivation of fish in aquaculture is combined with the cultivation of vegetables in hydroponic culture. The Viennese company blün committed itself exactly to this method and developed Austria’s first aquaponics facility in the 22nd district of Vienna.
Austria’s first commercial aquaponics system has many environmental benefits.
Ensures resource-saving production: aquaponics combines fish farming and vegetable production in an eco-effective cycle.

Smart Oasis

Smart Oasis is a fully autonomous vertical farm inside of the freight container.  It produces fresh organic foods year-long in any climate zone without the need to connect to any utilities.
Each greenhouse can produce more than 3000 kg of greens per year, and Smart Oasis Aqua edition can generate cleaning water with the power of sun and air.

Automated Meter Reading (AMR) Trial

PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, is rolling out the first phase of Smart Water Meter Programme in Singapore. This will see the installation of 300,000 smart water meters in new and existing residential, commercial and industrial premises by 2023. The Smart Water Meters are designed to monitor and collect water consumption data. This will enable PUB to provide consumers with value-added services through a mobile customer app, such as understanding their water usage, and alerting households of suspected water leaks.
