Social City Vienna

Social City Vienna is a platform for societal and social innovation. Projects and initiatives are launched and supported in five action areas: matching, community, education, sustainability and communication. The work of Social City Vienna is aimed at launching new projects, improving the networking of existing projects and initiatives and publicising Vienna’s social scene. One of its major objectives is to bring together the city’s stakeholders. In the very first advisory board meeting, the advisory board members addressed the issue of social inclusion, together with Social City Vienna.

Copenhagen Solutions Lab

The Copenhagen Solutions Lab is a governing body for smart city projects across all sectors in the city and have focus on creating triple helix partnerships. Copenhagen Solutions Lab lead the implementation of innovation and smart city development in close collaboration with knowledge institutions and companies as well as citizens.

Smart City Wien Forum

The Smart City Wien initiative depends on the cooperation of many participants from the city administration, business, science and civil society. The Smart City Wien Forums are of particular importance to both the development and the implementation of Smart City Wien. The topics and focus varies with each forum. According to the implementation of the Smart City Wien framework strategy, all areas at the given point in time should be paid attention to. The Smart City Wien Forums are organised and coordinated by the Smart City Wien Agency, located in TINA Vienna.

Decide Madrid

The open consultation and direct democracy platform was launched by the city of Madrid after the recent municipal elections. Enables citizens to propose, debate priorities and implement policy for the city. On the website citizens can create a thread where they can discuss any topic they want to share with other people in the city, and can propose what they want the City Council to do and support proposals from other people. Citizen proposals that reach 1% of support will be put to a vote. The first six months of each year citizens can decide how to spend part of the city budget.

Better Reykjavík

Better Reykjavík is an online consultation forum where citizens are given the chance to present their ideas on issues regarding services and operations of the City of Reykjavík. Anyone can view the open forum and registered users who approve the terms of participation can participate in the forum. When a user presents an idea on the Better Reykjavík forum, it is automatically considered the public property of the residents of Reykjavík and the original idea can change considerably during the consultative process provided on this forum.

Centro de Operações Prefeitura Do Rio (Operation Center, Rio de Janeiro)

400 employee strong operations center (50 operators) would consolidate 30 municipal agencies (ranging from emergency services like fire and medical to sanitation to public transportation) into a single, integrated command center that can monitor weather, traffic, and aspects of the city and react swiftly and effectively in face of emergencies and crises and would do so through cutting edge technology.

IRIS (Institutional and regulatory innovation to support local smart energy provisions)

In many municipalities, provinces and regions, local sustainable energy provisions have already been set in motion or realised. Sustainable (collective) energy provisions are set to play an even greater role in the composition of an area. However, new initiatives encounter numerous problems in the existing market structure, a framework determined by relevant legislation and regulations, the commercial energy market and contract market. Such legal frameworks often prove restrictive in regards to integrating the environmental and energy domains.
