Gumibitumen

Gumibitumen

In line with the principle of reuse and recycling, MOL and the University of Pannon (Veszprém) have developed a new type of chemically stabilised rubber bitumen as a new type of road construction binder through years of research and development.

The product is of significant value to the national economy, as it is an environmentally friendly way of recycling used tyres in a value-creating way.
The main benefits of rubber bitumen are:

  •     Longer life compared to normal bituminous roads.
  •     The fatigue properties are excellent, resulting in less cracking of the asphalt road.
  •     It results in higher load bearing capacity and less tendency to rutting.
  •     Its excellent adhesion to the mineral reduces the chance of potholes.
  •     Longer life and improved durability result in lower maintenance costs.
  •     Less road noise is achieved.
  •     Increased traffic safety due to better drainage.

The production and use of rubber bitumen in road construction not only improves the quality of asphalt roads compared to asphalt roads built with normal bitumen, but also offers a solution for the environmentally friendly processing and recycling of waste tyres.

Overall, rubber bitumen offers a cost-effective and environmentally and user-friendly solution compared to existing materials.
