Ship to grid

The project ship to grid tries to provide a solution for an increasing amount of pollution emitted by boats during lay times. In the past, ship owners could not turn off engines during lay times since no other energy supply was available. The ship to grid concept offers ship owner access to the electrical system of Cologne. This would allow ship owners to turn off engines during rest times and, as a consequence, lower the amount of emitted CO², particular matters and other pollutants.

Vehicle2Grid

Residents will be able to use the battery in their electric car to store their locally produced energy. Residents will be able to decide how to put their locally produced energy (i.e. from solar panels) to use. The energy can be transferred to the energy grid, used immediately or stored in the battery of an electric car, to be used at some later time to drive the car or run household appliances.

MOTI (Mayor's Office of Technology and Innovation – New York City)

The Mayor's Office of Technology and Innovation is led by New York City's first-ever Chief Technology Officer (CTO), Minerva Tantoco, who was appointed by Mayor de Blasio to drive citywide technology strategy. Under her leadership, the office facilitates citywide coordination and collaboration on technology issues, serves as a catalyst for and advises agencies on innovation, and interacts with the wider New York City technology ecosystem. The office's mission is to fulfill Mayor de Blasio's vision of making NYC the most innovative, tech-friendly, and equitable big city in the world.

Amsterdam Smart City

Amsterdam Smart City (ASC) is the innovation platform of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area which is constantly challenging businesses, residents, the municipality and knowledge institutions to test innovative ideas & solutions for urban issues. This contributes to the liveability of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area, promotes sustainable economic growth and helps develop new markets. ASC believes in a liveable city where people can live and work pleasantly. We are active in six different themes in which we bring together different organisations to start innovative projects together.

Songdo International Business District

New smart city or "ubiquitous city" built from scratch on 600 hectares of reclaimed land along Incheon's waterfront, 65 kilometres southwest of Seoul Embodies two avant-garde concepts: (1) the Aerotropolis, and (2) the Ubiquitous City (U-City). The largest private real estate development in the world’s history Songdo’s urban model bears several distinct features: its ubiquitous computing allows it to micro-manage numerous aspects of the city such as energy consumption and traffic; and the city can "interact" with citizens at the individual level.

Loadsensing

Loadsensing is a wireless system that allows the monitoring of large structures, with the aim to detect and prevent possible risks and to ensure an optimal use. The system collects data from a wireless sensors network and sends it to a database, triggering alarms when necessary. It was installed to monitor the Olympic Arena Palau Sant Jordi, in Barcelona. The solution allowed engineers to know in real time the weight and stress supported by every beam, so every event can be developed optimally without being exposed to any risk.

Smart traffic lights

The Control Safety Traffic Light Concept features an LED display that gradually changes the colors from Red to Green, with the Amber (or Yellow) fading in and out; between the changes. Solar panels and a security camera are integrated into the design for obvious reasons, and the whole thing works in conjunction with similarly designed pedestrian lights.
