Self-driving cars in public transport (FOAM)

The aim of the project is to foster the implementation of (semi) automated transport modes inside city centers and to prepare all stakeholders to future transport modes, in side and outside cities. The objective is an "on demand" transport based on individual vehicles (4/6 seats) which can be called by users at a "stop" and drive them to another ; during the journey, the vehicle can take on board new passengers and drive them to a different stop.

Mobypark (parking assistant)

Mobypark, a sharing parking platform, will make parking easier and more efficient. Private parking lots, public parking garages, hotels, and hospitals: they make their unoccupied parking spots available for drivers through Mobypark. Mobypark offers all the available places on a platform where it's possible to see real time availability and book these parking spots ahead. As a result, drivers spend less time searching for a single spot and reduce CO2 emissions.

Integrated Smart Parking Solution

Siemens Integrated Smart Parking Solution is a modular, infrastructure-based sensor system that goes beyond the possibilities of ground sensors. Imagine a tool that allows you to effortlessly form a clear picture of where available parking spaces can be found and how long each space has been occupied for, while providing an overview of improper usage of any non-parking areas as well as nearby Bicycle and Emergency Vehicle lanes.

Parker (parking assistant)

Features of Parker include: Find open parking spots, and even see on which side of the street you’ll find them. Use filters to only show spots that meet your preferences. (No coins? Not a problem – we can show you where bills or credit cards are accepted. Need accessible parking? We can show you availability for that, too.). View prices, payment options, hours (e.g., street parking free after 7PM), and more. One touch, turn-by-turn voice navigation quickly directs you to your preferred parking location. Built-in timer reminds you when your meter is about to expire.

Traffic and road safety

The city region of Eindhoven (SRE) is located at the hub of several international transportation routes, where relatively small incidents can have major consequences for the system as a whole. In 2011, approximately 30,000 people were killed in the European Union as a consequence of collisions in traffic. The European Commission recently adopted an ambitious Road Safety Programme, which aims to cut traffic deaths in Europe between 2011 and 2020 by 50 percent. Intelligent transport solutions (ITS) can help improve European road conditions and safety.

Characterization of the mobile network traffic data of the urban population

The mission of the Smartlab Knowledge Center is to cooperate and support our partners to succeed in their business by its complex, cross-disciplinary and innovative activities based on the R&D competencies of Obuda University. Smartlab also provides its infrastructural assets for educational purposes (in BSc and MSc but primarily on the level of PhD). Research and Development activities of the Knowledge Center involve: Smart City projects aiming the characterization of urban traveling patterns by using wireless information.

Traffic Information Platform (Real-time data collection and sharing)

A number of Forum Virium Helsinki’s projects, such as the development of a traffic information platform have led to successful commercial deployments following extensive trials, whereas others aim to implement the strategic goal of Finland towards open data such as the Helsinki Region Infoshare project. The traffic information platform, for example, captures real-time data and informs citizens about traffic congestion, roadworks, accidents or elks spotted on the motorway.
