Melbourne's open data and innovation program

The city of Melbourne is working with the community (residents, workers, businesses, students and visitors) to design, develop and test the best ways to live, work and play in Melbourne. The publication and visualization of municipal data can effectively promote understanding of, and participation in, Melbourne's evolution as a smart city. The data of multiple sectors (parking, transport, city sensors, major development, environment, city statictics etc.) are avaible for everyone.

Open Data & Analytics for Urban Transportation

By analysing anonymised data obtained from commuters' fare cards and identifying commuter hotspots to manage bus fleets, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) can help improve commuting experience. Arrival times of buses are tracked using sensors installed in over 5,000 vehicles, and the real-time location data of buses helps facilitate transport planning to better meet commuters' demands.
Insights gained from data can help LTA better anticipate and address the needs of different types of commuters through improved policy planning.

Virtual Singapore

Smart Elderly Alert System

Sensors are placed in the flat to help monitor the movements of the elderly, and caregivers will be alerted if any irregular movements are detected (e.g. if no movements are detected for a period of time).
In April 2016, residents from some 3,200 households in Yuhua estate were eligible to participate in a trial to use smart devices in their homes.
The trial ensured that the method is non-intrusive, non-contact and low cost methodology, and provides timely alerts.

OneService App

The OneService mobile app adopts an issue-based approach where reported cases will be routed to relevant agencies in a more efficient and coordinated manner. It is a convenient way for members of the public to give their feedback on municipal issues, without having to find out which agency is responsible for the issue!

Automated Meter Reading (AMR) Trial

PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, is rolling out the first phase of Smart Water Meter Programme in Singapore. This will see the installation of 300,000 smart water meters in new and existing residential, commercial and industrial premises by 2023. The Smart Water Meters are designed to monitor and collect water consumption data. This will enable PUB to provide consumers with value-added services through a mobile customer app, such as understanding their water usage, and alerting households of suspected water leaks.
