Iowa data bike

The Iowa Data Bike is a proof-of-concept initiative by the Des Moines Area MPO in partnership with the Iowa Department of Public Health and the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation. Using an app that senses the roughness of pavement, the Data Bike will generate data scoring the condition of trails. The Data Bike will also collect 360-degree imagery along trails for Google Street View.

Île-de-France Smart Services

Île-de-France Smart Services is a service platform developed by the Ile-de-France Region with and for Ile-de-France residents.

The idea of Ile-de-France Smart Services is simple: gather the large quantities of data produced by the Region and its partners, both public and private, and use this material to design and offer new services to make the daily life of Ile-de-France residents easier and more attractive and sustainable.

To ensure that these services meet the needs of users, the Region has chosen a co-construction approach.

KaiOS software

KaiOS is a software that gives smartphone capabilities to inexpensive mobile phones and helps open portals to learning opportunities.Opens up new possibilities for individuals, organisations, and societies by bringing mobile connectivity to people without internet in emerging markets, as well as providing those in established markets with an alternative to smartphones.

Life by KaiOS

Life by KaiOS Technologies, an in-house educational app for KaiOS-powered smart feature phones, is available in Africa. KaiOS users in Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, and South Africa can now find the app available for download via the KaiStore, with more countries coming soon.

Africa Goes Digital

Africa Goes Digital Inc. is an industry association representing selected African enterprises that are providing digital services in the sectors of agriculture, forestry, fisheries, natural resource management, infrastructure, mining and in the domains of surveying, engineering, inspection, disaster risk management, humanitarian work and research. Members leverage the power of digital technologies such as unmanned aerial systems, satellite imagery or geographical information systems to deliver quality services and high-end products.

Wecyclers recycling

Wecyclers is a for-profit social enterprise that promotes environmental sustainability, socioeconomic development, and community health by providing convenient recycling services in densely populated urban neighborhoods. They give households a chance to generate value from their waste and provide a reliable supply of raw material to the local recycling industry.

Mobile ticketing in Japan

Masabi, the company bringing Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) ticketing and payments to public transport, and Jorudan, Japan’s leading trip planning service, announced that they have launched mobile ticketing within the Jorudan app. More than 10 million users throughout Japan are now able to plan their journey, book their seats and buy Syoei Express Bus tickets directly from Jorudan’s Norikae Annai app and then use their phone to ride bus services. Jorudan will also be adding ticketing for further transport operators in the coming months.

Smart buses

The city of Kigali in Rwanda has been rolling out smart buses that offer 4G Wi-Fi,  a Tap and Go card that facilitates cashless payment system.  The cashless system in turn helps to reduce the problems of queues and waiting time.

This cashless system of payment was made created by the AC Group a  Rwandan payments company that facilitate solutions driving a cashless economy. 

Smart Streets

As part of our Vision Zero effort, Boston is working with Verizon to test data gathering technology at the Massachusetts Avenue and Beacon Street intersection.

Their goal is to capture aggregated data that helps to better understand the hazards on the roads. They use this information to decide on what changes they need to make. This could include:
