Drainage nets in Henley Reserve

In March 2018, the City of Kwinana installed drainage nets at two locations in Henley Reserve as a trial. The nets were installed in an effort to reduce the discharge of rubbish from drainage systems within the City, in particular areas where road drainage is discharged into public open spaces and reserves.
In 4 months both nets have been cleaned three times with a total of 370kg of debris collected by the drainage nets which has been removed and disposed of. The debris consisted of food wrappings, drink bottles, sand and tree leaves.

Reppie Waste-to-Energy

Reppie waste-to-energy plant uses trash as a fuel for power generation. Similar to other power plants (just using trash rather than other fuels like coal, oil, or natural gas), the fuel is burned in an environmentally sustainable manner, in a combustion chamber to heat tubes of water in boiler walls. The water is heated until it turns into steam, which is then used to drive a turbine generator that produces electricity.

Smart waste collection

Sensoneo sensors are installed in approximately ten cities and towns in the Czech Republic. Sensoneo has monitored glass, plastic and paper waste in underground bins in Prague II for over a year. As part of a twelve month pilot project, 420 sensors will be installed into waste containers (e.g. glass, plastics and other types of recyclable waste). The real technology benefits will be subsequently evaluated and a decision will be made on whether to expand or modify the project.
