PICO - Tool Project for Innovative Communication and Design. Stakeholders still lack insights in the big picture about opportunities in residential areas to save energy and produce energy sustainably. It is unclear for municipalities, residents and other stakeholders which solutions are preferable, and what the costs and benefits amount to. However, this insight helps the coordination of policy; it makes residents and investors more aware and helps them focus on the future benefits of solutions, while reducing uncertainties.

i-Voting

The ultimate goal will be create a system that incorporates diverse verification methods, accessible user-friendly interface, and intuitive operational features on a safe and reliable platform. The new i-Voting website--to be used for either marketing or policy implementation purposes--will boast a more diversified and flexible authentication system depending on the nature of the topics; specific subjects might require different security levels for voter’s identity verification.

Budget Monitoring

Budget Monitoring is a method that facilitates citizens to screen, assess, and actively participate in the decisions on public policy-making and government expenditure. It offers citizens the power, knowledge, and self-belief to take action for the right to live in better environments. The Center for Budgetmonitoring binds diverse community-led organizations, allowing valuable encounters among them as well as dialogue between citizens, organizations, and the government in mapping out problems and their solutions.

Civocracy (participatory democracy platform)

Civocracy makes it easy for citizens to learn more about an issue and to express their views. Civocracy shows the best arguments and relevant news, and also gives an overview of all the ways you can be actively involved, such as attending a town hall meeting or signing up as a volunteer. This way, the connection is made between online and offline engagement. Civocracy also creates impact by inviting all key stakeholders to contribute to the discussion. This leads to relevant high-quality comments.

Big Data Platform

Nieuw-West Living Lab

The district of Nieuw-West is a solid demographical representation of Amsterdam and an area with high energy consumption. Notably, however, the area is home to the first district-level Smart Grid in the Netherlands. Amsterdam Smart City partner Liander has invested significantly in this technology in recent years. The Smart Grid in Nieuw-West serves as the ideal backbone to realise new renewable energy sources, with decentralised energy generation taking the lead role.

Ijburg Living Lab

The emerging neighbourhood of IJburg is Amsterdam’s youngest district. It was only in the late 1990s that the decision was made to reclaim land and start construction of the neighbourhood. IJburg has been developed with a relatively high number of houses that are suitable for families, meaning the overall population is notably young. IJburg residents also have access to the fastest public fibre optic broadband internet in the world: up and down speeds of 500Mb/s are possible on the network.
