Riihimäki, the Capital of Robotics

The town of Riihimäki bases its strategy on robotics for developing an attractive business environment. Since robotics has been selected as the strategic focus area for the town, the authorities are committed to long-term development and implementation of robotics in a wide range of life and working environments. To ensure implementation, it is necessary to have an open atmosphere so that stakeholders, including citizens, business actors and town authorities, can participate in robotics development and innovation activities.

The Climate Equity Toolkit

The Climate Equity Toolkit is a top-down overview of the effects of climate change in Colorado at the county level. Each topic covered is analyzed with overlaying data on climate exposure, sensitivity to change and adaptive capacity, as it relates to sectors such as agriculture, water, food, national security, transportation, outdoor recreation and more. This educational data visualization tool includes place-based knowledge focused on how climate change affects the most vulnerable communities across Colorado.

HelpyNet application

HelpyNet is an innovative free mobile application based relationship maintaining system, that solves every possible situation, be it an emergency, calling in a faulty device, or finding out about a local service.
HelpyNet not only contributes to the protection and wellbeing of the residents, but also makes two way communication possible between different institutes - like local governments, transportation companies, sport centers, or even touristic venues, or commercial centers/malls – and end users, in every situation.

SymbioCity project

SymbioCity is a Swedish government initiative run by Business Sweden and SKL International. Business Sweden oversees the SymbioCity trademark and promotes national exports on behalf of the Swedish government and industry. As part of Swedish international development co-operation, SKL International uses the SymbioCity Approach to support cities in developing countries to plan and build sustainably e.g. by identifying inclusive and innovative solutions. The SymbioCity Approach seeks to improve the living conditions of people in urban settlements.

The Tel Aviv Foundation

The Tel Aviv Foundation is a partnership between the Tel Aviv Municipality and donors from Israel and around the world working together to meet the evolving needs of the City of Tel Aviv-Yafo. The Foundation was founded in 1977 and has established more than 820 projects and raised over $750 million worldwide. In doing so, the Foundation touches the lives of more than 500,000 people every year.

Urban Data School

The Urban Data School is an initiative to bring data literacy education to primary and secondary schools. The Urban data school worked with schools in Milton Keynes to enable pupils to critically analyse complex Smart City data sets, and to use data literacy skills to investigate critical urban issues. Data literacy – the ability to use data as part of complex reasoning and to accurately critique and interpret data to ask and answer meaningful questions – is an important civic skill that forms the foundation of an innovative knowledge economy.

Bioblitz

Melbourne BioBlitz is the City of Melbourne's first major citizen science program, where experts and members of the community work together to discover, document and learn about the species that call their city home. The most recent Melbourne BioBlitz took place over 24 hours on 4 and 5 March 2016. During the BioBlitz 744 members of the public joined 27 activities which included spotting birds at Royal Park, identifying insects at Westgate Park, and searching for plants in the Fitzroy Gardens.

NI Mentor Program

The purpose of the NI Mentor program is to introduce the students, from an early age, to smart and programmable tools which can improve digital literacy through game like methods, and to make them appreciate the natural sciences, and introduce them to the basics of engineering thinking, so later they can choose scientific and engineering careers. We already face challenges need to be solved that would, according to estimations, need 26% more engineers and natural scientists in 2020.
