The Urban Green Belts project is co-financed by the European Union as part of its Interreg Central Europe 2014-2020 Program. UGP aims to improve capacities in the public sector for planning, management and decision making related to urban green areas. To achieve this, integrated management models for sustainable maintenance of urban green areas are developed and tested based on international good practices. A handbook is also procuced by the project that provides directions for municipalities to reform urban green area management, create more liveable urban living and working areas, as well as a local green strategy, integrating the innovative methods and good practices developed during the project. The implementation period for UGP is from June 1, 2016 to May 31, 2019. The seven Central European participating countries are Austria, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovenia, Croatia, Poland and Hungary. From Hungary, Budapest's 12. district and the Central and Eastern European Regional Environmental Centre (REC) are members.
