Urban Data Platform

The Urban Data Platform is a joint initiative of the Directorate General Joint Research Centre (DG JRC) and the Directorate General for Regional and Urban Policy (DG REGIO) of the European Commission. It aims to provide access to information on the status and trends of European cities and their surrounding regions. The cities currently included in the Urban Data Platform correspond to the EU-OECD definition ‘A city is a local administrative unit where the majority of the population lives in an urban centre of at least 50 000 inhabitants’.

GrowSmarter

GrowSmarter brings together cities and industry to integrate and demonstrate ‘12 smart city solutions’ in energy, infrastructure and transport, to provide other cities with valuable insights on how they work in practice and opportunities for replication.

Bathroom Scout (public toilets search)

Need to find a restroom really quick? Install “Bathroom Scout” today and never be short of a restroom close to you! The database contains over 700.000 toilets worldwide and is maintained by an active user base.  The app displays those restrooms near to you on a map and let’s you make your choice. Of course you can leave comments for facilities you visited or add new ones!

Toilet Finder (public toilets search)

The application “Where are the toilets?” is participative: everyone can signal the presence of new toilets or the disappearance of old ones. Whatever the town or country, the application has the addresses of more than 70 000 public toilets and therefore represents the largest toilet database in the world! The application also has a fun aspect. It allows users to share photos of the most unusual toilets encountered during their travels. The application is available on iOS and Android.

Loop City - Danish developement collaboration

Loop City is a collaboration between 10 municipalities, the Capital Region and the Danish State on urban and business development along the Ring 3 light rail. The collaboration partners are the Capital Region, Ministry of Transport, Danish Business Authority, and 10 municipalities. Loop City is a unique Danish example of collaborative, strategic urban management. Its goal is to realise the significant opportunities for urban and business development that the new Ring 3 infrastructure paves the way for.

SITxell

One of the main objectives of the Barcelona Provincial Council (Diputació de Barcelona), developed primarily through the Department of Territory and Sustainability, is promoting territorial balance and sustainability. The ultimate aim is to provide information and criteria to support local administrations in their land planning and management responsibilities and to strengthen their participation in regional projects affecting them.

Environmental Parameters monitor in Santander

SMART SANTANDER project, which has been developed by several companies and institutions including Telefonica I+D and University of Cantabria, aims at designing, deploying and validating in Santander and its environment a platform composed of sensors, actuators, cameras and screens to offer useful information to citizens. 750 Waspmotes have been deployed to monitor different parameters such as noise, temperature, luminosity and CO.
