Bee Path - Ljubljana Urban Beekeeping

The Bee Path was opened in 2015 by the city of Ljubljana (SI), a municipality aware of the importance of pollinators for the sustainability of cities. The path is designed in such a way that visitors can comprehend the importance of bees for our survival and our food safety, discover the necessity of honey in our daily diet, but also find out more about the city's beekeeping culture. Various stakeholders are involved in the initiative: educational, cultural and health institutions, businesses, NGOs, and of course, beekeepers.

Finding opportunities in declining cities

After local industries closed, the population of Altena (DE) shrank by 43% between 1975 and 2014. Facing diminishing resources and increasingly complex problems, Altena shifted its strategic objectives to focus on controlling decline rather than growth. The municipality adjusted its priorities, working more closely with citizens.

Kolorcity Kazincbarcika

The Municipality of Kazincbarcika realizes a local community building and community development program in partnership with local NGOs, businesses and local governmental organizations, with the support of the European Union and the Government of Hungary.

With the slogan "Color City", the Kolorcity concept started in 2011, resulting in the creative painting of more than 30 facades of buildings; a number of new statues, street art works, and the yearly COLORFESTIVAL, sports and recreational events colored the city's everyday life.

WindyGrid -real time city data service

In just four months. Called WindyGrid, this system is an intelligent operations platform built on MongoDB. What makes WindyGrid exceptional isn’t just that it pulls together seven million different pieces of data from city departments every day.

Smart Urban Logistic in Austria

The aim of the “Smart Urban Logistics” initiative is to build up an Austrian networking platform to boost and promote intelligent solutions in the field of urban logistics. The intention is to make stakeholders aware of the topic, to create acceptance for innovative technologies, to initiate a communication process, to support further discussions and to be the incentive for the start of pilot projects that help to design future cities.

Austrian e-card

The 56th revision of the ASVG (Allgemeines Sozialversicherungsgesetz, Law on General Health Insurance) assigned the task to the Association of Austrian Social Insurance Institutions to create an e-card as a foundation for an electronic administration system (ELSY). Originally produced as a substitute for the health insurance voucher nowadays the e-card system does much more.

ELGA - Electronic health record in Austria

The ELGA Act 2013 provides the specific legal basis for processing health data by means of an electronic health record and reenacts the health telematics Act (Gesundheitstelematikgesetz) 2005. It contains rules for the provision of ELGA’s central and decentral components (i.e. the so called affinity domains) and for the procession on of health data by the health service providers as well as technical and organizational norms such as time lines for the duty to use ELGA for different groups of health care providers and specified classes of ELGA data.

City Data Exchange in Copenhagen

Copenhagen, Denmark, is aggressively moving towards becoming a smart, carbon-neutral city by 2025. To achieve this goal, the city is initiating smart city programs such as smart lighting, sensor-based traffic management, intelligent building management and more. Up to now, data from individual smart city initiatives has been kept in silos. Copenhagen and Hitachi have joined forces to launch an integrated data service to eliminate these silos.
