Life by KaiOS Technologies, an in-house educational app for KaiOS-powered smart feature phones, is available in Africa. KaiOS users in Nigeria, Uganda, Rwanda, and South Africa can now find the app available for download via the KaiStore, with more countries coming soon.

They give households a chance to generate value from their waste and provide a reliable supply of raw material to the local recycling industry.

Future Proof Program

COVID-19 forced businesses across Ontario to close their doors this spring and many are looking for new and creative ways to attract business. With Future Proof, Digital Main Street aims to expand their support and create lasting change for small businesses across Ontario through three initiatives called Transformation Teams, the Digital Main Street Lab and the Community Collaboration Project.

Will, the digital teacher

In conjunction with New Zealand’s leading AI company Soul Machines, Vector has created Will, a ‘digital teacher’ being trialled in its award-winning ‘Be Sustainable with Energy’ schools programme, which is offered free of charge to schools within Vector’s Auckland electricity network. The schools programme was launched in 2005 and has since educated more than 125,000 children about energy.

GreenStock platform

GreenStock’s digital platform enables developers to easily locate and reuse building materials and cut construction waste.

GreenStock’s cloud-based platform streamlines logistics for the reuse of building materials. Organisations can use the platform internally to map available materials in existing buildings and leftovers from building projects in a database for reuse in future construction projects. This will reduce carbon emissions as well as overall building costs.

TotalCtrl Restaurant

TotalCtrl Restaurant promotes sustainable operations by providing restaurant owners and employees with digital control over food inventory.

When a food delivery has arrived, staff use TotalCtrl Restaurant to confirm that the invoice matches the delivery. This ensures that the restaurant has the correct quantity and type of goods, as well as an overview of the expiry date for each item. The solution sends notifications when items are about to expire, enabling staff to prevent food waste.

The socio-economic impact of tourism is extraordinary in cities, but it brings at the same time a range of negative externalities, including high levels of unsustainable resource consumption and waste production. In comparison with other cities, tourist cities have to face additional challenges related to waste prevention and management due to their geographical and climatic conditions, the seasonality of tourism flow and the specificity of tourism industry and of tourists as waste producers.
