The Sharing Cities ‘lighthouse’ programme is a proving ground for a better, common approach to making smart cities a reality. By fostering international collaboration between industry and cities, the project seeks to develop affordable, integrated, commercial-scale smart city solutions with a high market potential. The project partners work in close cooperation with the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities and with other `lighthouse` consortia.

SunSpot to calculate the solar power

SunSpot uses geographical information systems data to estimate the technical potential of rooftop solar, accounting for the tilt of roof surfaces and shading at the site.

The Australian Photovoltaic Institute and the University of New South Wales have partnered with Solar Analytics and Enosi in the Energy Data for Smart Decision Making project to develop an open modelling platform that uses spatial data and data on solar exposure, energy generation and consumption to help end users calculate the solar power potential of areas of interest. 

 

Smart sewer project detects virus outbreaks

The initial findings of an Israeli pilot project aimed at detecting outbreaks of Covid-19 by identifying traces of the coronavirus in the municipal sewage system have been released.

According to smart wastewater big data solutions firm Kando, preliminary results demonstrate the technology’s ability to pinpoint specifically affected neighbourhoods and hotspots. The idea is that it would provide authorities early-warning for outbreaks and data to limit isolation of areas and lockdowns – even to city street level.

Hort-in-Box green wall module

The outdoor green wall and flower column scientific research program was launched in Debrecen in 2007, which later called the HIB (Hort-in-Box) project to integrate the latest scientific, biotechnological and engineering knowledge into a biologically balanced, multi-aesthetic, horticultural and technical , a modular plant habitat controlled in part by precision high-tech devices, by displaying it as a “mini garden” or a “box garden”.

SORMAS-ÖGD

SORMAS (Surveillance Outbreak Response Management and Analysis System) is a mobile digital business management system for epidemic control measures. SORMAS-ÖGD is a specialized version for contact person management in the context of the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. It supports public health authorities in identifying and monitoring contact persons. SORMAS-ÖGD is used on virtual servers, whereby only employees of the respective health authority have access to the data; the health authority is the sole owner of the data.
