Los Angeles robotaxi

Motional and Lyft have announced the second launch of their fully driverless ride-hail service as part of its multi-city partnership, featuring the Ioniq 5 AV. The Los Angeles service will also use Motional’s all-electric Ioniq 5-based robotaxis and it will be the first time that residents in Los Angeles can request an AV in the Lyft app.

Woven city

Toyota has begun construction of Woven City, its prototype city of the future, at the foot of Mount Fuji, on the site of its former car factory in Shizuoka Prefecture. Woven City will serve as a living laboratory and intellectual workshop for the scientists working there to develop the technologies of the future.

One of the key goals of building the city is to test new system and service ideas that expand mobility and unleash human potential. The planned city will cover a total area of 708 000 square metres, with a planned housing capacity of 2 000 people. 

Brownfield development of Merwede in Utrecht, aiming sustainability

Merwede is a neighbourhood in Utrecht, one of the fastest growing cities in the Netherlands. An old industrial area, it is now undergoing a transformation process based on urban planning criteria that puts clean and shared mobility ahead of the existing prioritisation of road traffic.The demolition works have begun in 2020 and the final project includes sustainable housing for around 12,000 people (the first residents are expected to move in by 2024). The new neighbourhood of Merwede will enable residents to access all the services on foot or using bicycles.

M4H harbour area transformation in Rotterdam

The municipality of Rotterdam and the Rotterdam Port Authority want to develop M4H (Merwe-Vierhavens, a 100 years old harbour area in the City of Rotterdam, a brownfield area with heavily polluted soil) into an innovative living-work environment, optimally equipped for innovative manufacturing industry and with a mix of working, residential, culture, catering, sports and education. An energetic district with an impact on both the city and the port.

In 2017, the municipality and the Port Authority formulated five objectives for M4H:

SHARE NOW - carsharing

SHARE NOW is a modern, sustainable, environmentally friendly, sharing-based service for residential and business customers that can replace the use of private cars, free up parking spaces in the city and reduce congestion caused by vehicles in the city. SHARE NOW has around 400 carsharing vehicles available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in Budapest and the surrounding areas, and customers can access this sustainable mobility solution through an app.

SMARTA project

Rural public transport services in Europe are under stress, due to a combination of factors including austerity measures, demographic change and poor connectivity in terms of transport and telecommunications infrastructure. The absence of a range of services, including mobility, has resulted in rural areas that have become highly auto dependent. The inevitable outcome is that those without cars are dependent on others for lifts, often meaning they have reduced possibilities to participate in society.

Gohio Commute

Gohio Commute, a program of the Northeast Ohio Areawide Coordinating Agency (NOACA), is the premier ride planning, matching, and logging tool available for free to anyone who lives, works, or attends school in Cuyahoga, Geauga, Lake, Lorain, and Medina Counties. This interactive platform gives you the information you need to make smart choices – and save money, improve your health, and improve air quality. You can also connect with nearby commuters to share your ride.

U-Car

In addition to the existing YouBike public bike and U-Motor electric scooter sharing, Taipei City Government will start U-Car electric car sharing system to provide a more efficient transportation option.
The existing U-Car can reach maximum speed of 250km/hour. Considering the traffic need of longer distance between cities, Taipei City Government will cooperate with Keelung, Taoyuan and Hsinchu and other neighboring cities.

Ha:mo Ride

Toyota is at work developing a next-generation community network called Ha:mo, to support solutions for local transportation issues through optimal connection between personal transportation modes and public transportation for seamless and enjoyable local mobility. Ha:mo mobility support provides better and more convenient access. With ease of movement comes brisk mobility, re-energizing the community. Lower CO2 emissions, energy efficiency and space saving features all benefit the environment too.
