At DOLL they fill a gap in the innovation chain by bringing public and private actors together on a neutral ground, where they can test,  showcase and be inspired by cutting edge technology in a “one stop shop” with all relevant network infrastructures present across our 400 acre living lab.

City parklets - citymaking!wien

CityMaking!Wien provides a new toolkit that make it easier for the people to conceive and build parklets in Vienna. A parklet transform the street into a social node where people can share with their neighboors. The webpage offers different tools that will help the user to conceive and build its own living room in the city! The basic requirements and guidelines to build parklets are also listed.  Whats more the parklet potential map helps the usre to see where it might be possible to build a parklet in their surroundings.

 

Nature4Cities project

The Nature4Cities project aims to develop a scientific and technical database and operational tool for the effectiveness of Nature Based Solutions applied in a framework which considers a holistic approach and, which integrates multiple stakeholders.
It intents to produce knowledges and to empower urban projects stakeholders (involved in urban planning/design/management intervention) to take decision. It addresses to scientists, urban decision makers, practitioners and citizens.

Via Verde in Mexico City

Vía Verde is the transformation of more than 1000 concrete columns into a more than 60 thousand square meters of vertical gardens that support Mexico City´s Beltway, one of the most important and iconic expressways in Mexico and in Latin America. Vía Verde came out as a citizen request that was formulated through the social digital platform Change.org, where more than 75 thousand signatures were collected in just 7 days.

City-zen: Virtual Power Plant

A virtual power plant is an online platform which aggregates people’s production and consumption of solar energy and stores the surplus locally. Due to this aggregation it’s possible to trade energy on the wholesale markets: the use of a home battery lets you store energy when electricity prices are low and discharge the battery when there are high.

Plastic Bikelane

The world first  road created out of recycled plastic could be built in only a matter of days and that can last three times longer than a traditional road. The road allows excess water to drain quickly and has a built-in solution for pipes and cables.    Additionally, switching from asphalt to plastic roads will reduce the carbon dioxide emissions when compared to traditional road construction.

Smart benches in Prague

Apart from being a place for rest and relaxation, the specially equipped benches let Prague citizens and visitors alike charge their phones or tablets, connect to the Internet, check the current temperature and air humidity or the volume of carbon dioxide in the air. All of that is available at the city public areas without the need to be connected to electric energy – the benches are powered by solar panels.

eTree

eTree is an environmental enterprise, an ecological sculpture that aims to promote awareness to sustainability within the community. The eTree is powered by solar panels that produce energy directly from the sun. It is an independent unit that produces green energy and provides a comfortable space.

HomeBiogas

HomeBiogas is an off-grid system that generates clean energy without any electricity AND allows you to properly treat your household waste! The system produces up to 2 hours of cooking gas every day solely from your food scraps or animal waste. HomeBiogas needs sunlight in order to produce biogas. Bacteria thrive on warmth!  You can activate HomeBiogas one of two ways. The most effective method is to use animal manure (specifically any animal that chews its cud i.e. cow, deer,camels, buffalo, goats and sheep).
