Smart Governance

Tengah - the city of the future

Tengah will be Singapore’s first smart and sustainable town, with green features and smart technologies.

Giant solar-powered air conditioners, vacuum garbage collection, subterranean roads for electric vehicles, urban farms and green architecture. Put them all together and you have Tengah, Singapore’s most ambitious project yet to build the city of the future.

IREN2 - Future viable networks for integration of renewable energy systems

As part of IREN2, Siemens and its consortium partners are investigating new types of  grid structures and ways of operating them based on technical and economic criteria. The goal is to find out how energy systems involving distributed electricity generation and additional components can be technically and economically optimized. In addition, microgrids – smart, self-contained regional electricity distribution systems – are being trialed as islanded grids, as are their use and operation as “topological power plants.”

Glasgow Operations Centre

Glasgow Operations Centre is a state-of-the-art integrated traffic and public safety management system, created with the aid of the Innovate UK funding. The new centre brings together Public Space CCTV, security for the city council’s museums and art galleries, Traffic Management and Police Intelligence.

The facility has the capability to provide a co-ordinated, real-time, intelligence-led, response to incidents large and small across the city, placing Glasgow at the leading edge of smart city management.

Full-power autonomous street sweeper

Finnish street maintenance technology developer Trombia Technologies has launched what it claims is the world’s first full-power autonomous, electric street sweeper in Helsinki.

The Trombia Free cleaning devices claim to use less than 15 per cent of the power required by currently available heavy suction sweeping technologies. The company is seeking to cut three million CO2 metric tons annually.

This unlocks the potential for mass-electrification and carbon-neutralisation of one of the heaviest vehicle technologies in use in cities globally.

RoadBotics

RoadBotics empowers communities to make objective, data-driven decisions about their roads and infrastructure. They automate inspections and generate actionable data about road networks, including identification of individual distresses like potholes and alligator cracking. Their detailed maps, unbiased ratings, and practical tools save time and taxpayer dollars for hundreds of communities across the country and around the world.

Desa Digital (Digital Village)

The Government of West Java is working to utilize more technology to improve its governance, public services, and the citizens’ life quality in Indonesia's most populous province. This is challenging as most West Java citizens live in predominantly rural areas—as many as 5,312 villages—and have limited access to technology; some even have no internet connection.

Sharing Cities

The Sharing Cities ‘lighthouse’ programme is a proving ground for a better, common approach to making smart cities a reality. By fostering international collaboration between industry and cities, the project seeks to develop affordable, integrated, commercial-scale smart city solutions with a high market potential. The project partners work in close cooperation with the European Innovation Partnership on Smart Cities and Communities and with other `lighthouse` consortia.
