Our Food Future

Food is a fundamental requirement of life on this planet. However, the basic structure of today’s linear “take-make-dispose” food system is unsustainable—economically, socially and environmentally. In Guelph-Wellington, one in six families experience food insecurity, and the cost of healthy food keeps increasing. Meanwhile, between a third and a half of the food we produce is thrown away. Much of that ends up in landfill, where it creates the greenhouse gases that drive climate change.

Wecyclers recycling

Wecyclers is a for-profit social enterprise that promotes environmental sustainability, socioeconomic development, and community health by providing convenient recycling services in densely populated urban neighborhoods. They give households a chance to generate value from their waste and provide a reliable supply of raw material to the local recycling industry.

Smart buses

The city of Kigali in Rwanda has been rolling out smart buses that offer 4G Wi-Fi,  a Tap and Go card that facilitates cashless payment system.  The cashless system in turn helps to reduce the problems of queues and waiting time.

This cashless system of payment was made created by the AC Group a  Rwandan payments company that facilitate solutions driving a cashless economy. 

PSY POINT - PRO BONO

Helping professionals (psychologists, psychiatrists, mental health professionals) offer their free help to provide spiritual support to those in crisis, online or by phone. The profession of psychologist provides help through therapies, consultations, crisis interventions transferred to online spaces, and collects good practices to cope with the COVID-19 situation with an incredible amount of background work. The website contains several articles, texts, brochures, collections of ideas on the topic.

3D-printed respirators

In order to help provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the Coronavirus pandemic, a team at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) has created and tested multiple designs of 3D printable respirators and custom filters that are now released as open source.

PathCheck Foundation

PathCheck was founded in February, 2020, at MIT by a passionate community of people and organizations to contain the spread of COVID-19 and help revitalize economies without sacrificing personal privacy. We’ve been pioneers in digital contact tracing and exposure notification technology. Their original technology was based on the MIT Private Kit: Safe Paths.

3D-printed isolation wards

In the battle against the coronavirus, timely isolation has become the top priority for epidemic prevention and control. Adequate isolation wards can not only concentrate and isolate patients diagnosed with infection and suspected patients, effectively prevent the spread of the epidemic, but also provide patients with a more professional and comfortable treatment environment, which will help their early recovery.

#DontGoViral Campaign

The COVID-19 pandemic is accompanied by an Infodemic, a spread of disinformation and misinformation making it difficult for people to find accurate information. To contribute to tackling this issue, UNESCO, in partnership with the Innovation for Policy Foundation (i4Policy), is launching an online campaign to crowdsource local openly licensed content to inform communities across Africa about COVID-19. The #DontGoViral campaign is designed to activate artists and cultural entrepreneurs across Africa.

Neighbourhood Watch Service

In Szárliget and Disód, the so-called Neighbourhood Watch Service was set up, which drastically reduced crime in the villages. No need for high-cost alarm systems or push-button devices,it's based on the old and simple idea of ​​people paying attention to each other, their family members, their neighbors, their immediate surroundings.
If somebody is suspicious in our environment, all we have to do is take a photo of him, write down the license plate number of the car, or, if there is nothing around, remember the events.
