The Museum of Transport will move into the former MÁV Northern Vehicle Repair Shop, which was a disused and empty building complex for a long time. Re-using existing buildings, technologies and materials, the new Museum of Transport will house new exhibitions.
Following an international competition, Diller Scofidio + Renfro will produce the final designs, with visual plans for modern exhibition spaces and high-quality open spaces that will provide an exciting counterpoint to the industrial heritage of the area. The aim is to create an ever-changing museum, always offering new experiences, with micro-galleries providing the new features alongside the permanent exhibitions.
The huge glass façades not only show the structure of the industrial building to its fullest, but also reveal the museum's spectacular collection from the outside, while the surrounding park blurs the strict boundaries between inside and outside, between nature and the built environment.
