As part of the City of Perth’s Smart Cities engagement programme, the city is providing a free public outdoor wireless Lo Range (LoRa) Network service for its citizen scientists, residents, community groups and businesses, to promote learning and innovation with smart devices connected to a network, collectively known as the “Internet of Things” or IoT.
This dataset contains current tree data for the City of Perth and contains information regarding the Botanical name, Common Name and Family. Data is compiled from field capture from a parks team. This is not a complete comprehensive inventory of all trees as trees in the private realm are excluded. Some errors and/or duplicate data may exist.
The first step in the rollout of the City of Perth’s new smart city innovation program has been achieved with the award of three tenders. The City was successful in securing a matched funding grant worth $1.3million from the Australian Government, through the Smart Cities and Suburbs Program. Purdue University engineers have created white paint that can keep surfaces up to 18 degrees Fahrenheit cooler than their ambient surroundings – almost like a refrigerator does, but without consuming energy.
According to the researchers, the paint would replace the need for air conditioning by absorbing nearly no solar energy and sending heat away from the building. Without the building heating up, air conditioning wouldn’t have to kick on.

Creation of the garden on the roof in the Bremen Volkshochschule developed with the help of local NGO, Gemüsewerft Bremen and local citizens. The initiative involves vegetables and herbs growing, educational workshops on nutrition and urban gardening as well as various social activities. The idea of beekeeping originated from AUDI AG, Audi Hungaria's parent company. In 2015, Audi Hungaria was in the midst of implementing its flora and fauna protection plan thus the beekeeping idea was in line with ongoing developments, and quickly taken up by management. 6 bee colonies with 270,000 bees were installed in September 2015. The bees produce 200-240 kilograms of honey each year, which is branded as Audi Hungaria Premium Honey, and gifted to visitors, as well as purchasable in the gift shop.
